BuildHop

StumbleUpon for indie projects. Hit the button, land somewhere new, thumbs up if you stay.

Visit buildhop.io

What it is

If you remember StumbleUpon from 2005, you already know the loop. One button, get sent to a random indie project, thumbs up to upvote, thumbs down to skip, jump to the next. buildhop.io. The whole site is one keyboard shortcut, basically.

What stood out

The cold-start problem solved by accident. You don’t browse a list and pick something safe. You get dropped on Cleo, then Marco Inbox (“simplified offline email client, no ads no tracking no compromise, $4 a month”), then “is your site invisible to AI.” Things you’d never have searched for. The randomness is the feature.

Who it’s for

Indie makers who want eyeballs on their launch but don’t have a Twitter following yet. Also anyone who used to procrastinate on StumbleUpon and misses it. Same neural pathway, healthier target.

What I’d push back on

The leaderboard is fun (ShipClip is on it · please thumbs up if you land on us) but it pulls the experience back toward “look at the top 10,” which is the opposite of what makes the random hop work. The hop is the magic. Let the leaderboard be a side door.

Bottom line

Cool idea, well executed. Worth a few hops.
