What bitrate should I use?

  • 128 kbps — Smallest file. Fine for spoken word and podcasts.
  • 192 kbps — Good balance. Recommended for most uses.
  • 256 kbps — Hard to distinguish from the original.
  • 320 kbps — Maximum MP3 quality. Use for music or archival.
